A widespread shift in how we perceive signs, symbols and intuition is taking hold. After centuries of suppression, our sixth sense is once again strengthening, and the knowledge that all life is energy and all energy is connected is emerging anew.
In “The Six Gifts” series, characters are propelled forward via dreams , animals offer themselves as guides and objects reveal a significance far beyond their purpose. Threads of connectivity intertwine to weave dimensions of meaning and perception from the distant past into the present .
If we take the time to listen beneath the pervasive noise that’s ever-present, we’ll find that, in our lives, these same dimensions surround and penetrate us through symbols and signs, dreams and visions. We are meant to pay attention.
“With intuition we are like the starry night, we gaze at the world through a thousand eyes.”
— Clarissa Pinkola Estes
Below is a deeper insight into a few of the signs and symbols utilized in the series.

Red Tailed Hawk – Secrets – When she walks the banks of the Rio Grande, Olivia is frequently visited by a Red-tailed Hawk. Each time, the glorious bird stares straight into Olivia’s eyes with intensity. It reminds her that a similar bird flew into her path and made eye contact in the very same spot when she was a young girl. These hawks have got to be trying to send her a message!
Wind Chimes – Secrets – The wind chimes that hang from Mrs. Capricci’s front porch dance their enchanting song across the breeze. To many, the sound evokes a sense of benevolence. To others, they reminisce the sound of church bells on Sunday morning. But for one young girl, they are the first sound she hears after having gone deaf from illness.
God’s Eye – Secrets – When a young boy is tragically killed in their small town, his sister finds solace with Mrs. Capricci. They sit each day at her kitchen table and weave God’s Eyes using yarn and popsicle sticks. Over time, the routine practice of weaving and watching the “eye” form as the yarn extends outward instills a peaceful acceptance in the girl’s broken heart.
Rock Cairn – Secrets – A collection of rock cairns decorates Mrs. Capricci’s front porch. Olivia admires them as she rocks back and forth wondering what prompted the creation of each stack. Before she goes home, she scoops a few of them up and takes them with her, where she ceremoniously positions them across her own front porch in honor of Mrs. Capricci.
Unmarked Gravestone – Secrets – For Olivia, a requested unmarked gravestone is a hard choice to accept. But years of speculation turn to understanding when she learns it’s not the first one in her family. But now she has new heartbreak. It’s difficult enough to die from cancer, let alone riddled in shame.
Black Bear – Berries – It seems no coincidence when a black bear hoots from the woods just beyond his property line. But are the subsequent words carried on the wind a figment of his imagination? Either way, bravery takes root in Marco’s soul empowering him to act.
Maple Tree – Berries – Olivia has a kinship with the Maple tree. She admires its strength and endurance and strives to demonstrate these properties in her own character. But it’s the joyful sweetness of its syrup that she sets her long-term sights on.
Doll’s Eye Berries – Berries – Poison lurks in this eerie fruit. But sometimes poison is just the igniter that fans the flames of a deep-rooted conundrum.
Rattle Snake – Berries – The trauma of a snakebite does more than give Marco a stressful shot of adrenaline. It snaps him out of his inertia and like the snake itself, he embarks on a metamorphosis as he begins to shed his too tight skin.
Wooden Cross – Berries – Some of us go to church and some of us are drawn to water. For Marco, the dirt stains on his sneakers from his daily treks through the river are a visual reminder that he’s choosing the right path. For just beyond the bank, the fruits of his labor stand humbly noble.
Buck – Fumes – King of the forest, protector of all creatures, the buck shadows Rio and Mateo. The assurance it provides enables them to harness the power to safeguard their family’s legacy – against the greatest odds.
Dagger – Fumes – We all find treasures when we’re kids. Some we parade in public, others we keep secret. But few hold such mystery they are held onto for a lifetime.
Pocket Watch – Fumes – It’s a miracle that an old pocket watch found in the sand still works. But the fact that it keeps getting “stuck in time” is frustrating to Mateo until the day that specific time becomes extremely significant.
Rabbit – Fumes – Although his ancestor, Benito, made a name with his delectable rabbit stew, Mateo chooses to nurse an injured rabbit back to health. Before he knows it, it’s a member of his growing menagerie. Little does he know; this rabbit just may be a sign of changes to come.
Scales Of Justice – Fumes – With lawyers and lawsuits and police swirling around them, Rio and Mateo take justice into their own hands – until nature takes control and delves out justice of its own.
